Research Training

NIH Office of Extramural Research
The NIH Office of Extramural Research offers a free tutorial on Protecting Human Research Participants that University of Western States elects to use to fulfill the requirement for education in the protection of human subjects. It is recommended that all faculty, staff and students involved as an investigator in research at the university complete this course.

Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program
The Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI Program) is dedicated to promoting the public’s trust in the research enterprise by providing high quality, peer-reviewed, web-based educational courses in research, ethics, regulatory oversight, responsible conduct of research, research administration and other topics pertinent to the interests of member organizations and individual learners.

These materials are designed and regularly updated to:

  • Enhance the knowledge and professionalism of investigators, staff, and students conducting research in the United States and internationally
  • Educate members, administrators, and leadership of ethics committees that review and oversee research
  • Promote ethical research at organizations through the education of research administrators and organizational leadership

If you are interested in competing CITI training, please contact the Research and Sponsored Programs office for more information at uwsresearch@test.uws.edu.

National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
NIAID offers both laboratory and clinical research training programs for student, staff, and faculty investigators. It is highly recommended that all research investigators complete the NIAID Good Clinical Practices training program.

Community of Research and Scholarly Practice

The UWS Community of Research and Scholarly Practice (CRSP) is a collaborative faculty group that offers a supportive space to learn research processes, propose research ideas, and receive guidance in conducting research and scholarship.

Chaired by Dr. Cortny Williams, the CRSP was founded in 2019 to cultivate a peer culture that meets quarterly, providing interaction around methods, tools and authentic research experiences.  Faculty engage in topics that are timely, reflecting the needs and skills of the group while fostering a true learning culture around research practices.

Participants in CRSP have produced IRB approved research projects, numerous conference presentations, engaged students in research projects, and published papers (including award winning papers from the Chiropractic Educators Research Forum in 2021 and 2022).

If you are interested in learning more about the research outcomes, feel free to review some of the great experiences that our CRSP participants have had here. If you’re a UWS faculty member and you’d like to participate in CRSP, please contact Dr. Williams.
