David Riley is board certified in Internal Medicine and has been an editor with multiple peer-reviewed and indexed medical journals since 1995. As a medical editor he has participated in the development of health research reporting guidelines; initially with the CONSORT guidelines in 1999 and then CARE for case reports in 2011. First published in 2013, the CARE guidelines (www.care-statement.org) are available by multiple languages and have been accepted as the standard for publishing case reports in many scientific journals. Health research reporting guidelines and their developmental history is available online at www.equator-network.org.
Dr. Riley teaches scientific writing and publishing of case reports internationally. In 2018, Scientific Writing in Health and Medicine (SWIHM - www,swihm.com) was launched, an online training platform for writing scientific case reports following CARE. In 2019, CARE-writer, an online app assisting authors writing case reports was released (www.care-writer.com)
