UWS Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the university.

The Board of Trustees of University of Western States (UWS) is the institution’s governing body. It is composed of a diverse group of individuals dedicated to the mission to advance the science and art of integrated health care through excellence in education and patient care. The board meets regularly to deliberate on university matters and strives to apply the board-adopted pillars of diversity, equity, and inclusion in their decision-making.

What does the Board of Trustees do?

University of Western States is incorporated by the state of Oregon as a private, non-profit organization and governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees. The board is vested with all duties and responsibilities of governing the university. Its primary responsibilities are:

  • Appoint and regularly evaluate the performance of the university president.
  • Sustain and advance the mission, major goals, vision, traditions, values and reputation of the university.
  • Approve the annual university budget.
  • Approve board-level university policies.
  • Ensure the overall fiscal stability of the university.

The UWS Board of Trustees is comprised of between ten and seventeen members, who may serve a maximum of seven years.
